The festival presents an extensive and inclusive set of classes and workshops to cover various aspects of Argentine Tango with international performers Pablo and Daniela, as well as Dale Ellison from Charleston SC and Connecticut's own Gem Duras. Snacks will be served at the breaks. Singles are welcome, we change partners. |
Milongas Milongas are Argentine Tango Dance events where people spend the evening to socialize and dance tango. The 2013 Festival presents an exciting range of Milongas with some of Connecticut's most popular Milonga hosts.

Tango Intensive, Day I Full day, 5 hours of instruction with Dale and Gem packed into this Saturday of intensive Argentine Tango. The morning sessions will take place in Danbury CT to cover tango elegance, pauses, beginnings and endings. The afternoon sessions will be held in Milford focusing on fundamentals for beginners. limited enrollment. Morning: Tango Elegance (Danbury) 11:00 a.m.: Tango Connection: Accuracy, synchronized elegant movements and strong communication with your partner Vitti's Dance Studio, Danbury (VD) Boot Camp for Beginners (Milford) 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 pm (with short breaks): Argentine Tango basics, embrace and connection. Next phase, pivots, ochos and turns. Free leg movements, combinations with ganchos "hooking legs together". Dancing to Nuevo and Classic Full day, 5 hours of intensive tango instruction with Dale and Gem. The morning sessions cover various essentials such as turns and sweeps. Recommended for those who took a boot camp the previous day or in the past as well as experienced dancers. The afternoon workshops will focus on nuevo style and present various steps and concepts developed by renowned dancer Chicho Frumboli. Morning: Dancing Classic Tango 11:00 a.m.: Essentials I: Entangled legs: Sensual Sacadas and Enganches, slow sassy displacements with leg wraps. Afternoon: Dancing Nuevo Tango
2:30 p.m.: Soltadas and Spins: Letting go of the embrace with on axis turns for nuevo dancing. Dance Dimansions , Norwalk (DD) Dale Ellison, known in Buenos Aires as Delia, has been dancing Argentine tango for more than 18 years, and teaching for more than 9. She has developed a reputation as a dynamic Argentine Tango teacher and performer in salon, milonguero, nuevo and performance styles of tango. Originally a San Francisco resident, Dale received her tango training from the stars of the famous show “Forever Tango” most notably Carlos Gavito and Marcela Duran. Initially a salsa dancer and club style salsa instructor, Dale was drawn to tango for its sensuality and passion, later winning the first prize in the first San Francisco Tango Competition in 1998. She has traveled to Buenos Aires numerous times to study with Gustavo Naveira, Osvaldo Zotto, Oscar Mandagaran, Chicho Frumboli, Geraldine Rojas, Graciela Gonzales, Marcela Duran, and women's technique with Lorena Ermocida. Dale Ellison teaches and runs tango activities as the director of Tango Rojo in Charleston SC. Gem Duras started his tango training in 1995 with the stars of the famous show "Forever Tango" especially the legendary Carlos Gavito with whom he had the opportunity to study extensively for several years, incorporating his technique, elegance and musicality into his own dancing and teaching. Later he studied performance tango with Francisco Forquera in Argentina to become a certified tango instructor and dancer. Gem recently performed and taught at the Stardust weekend upstate New York, and participated as a performer in the New Year’s Celebration event organized by Akademi Tango, in Ankara-Turkey. He was also a guest instructor at the HARTS Tango cruise in 2011. Since the founding of Tango Sueno in 2003 with Dale Ellison, he has been a popular instructor in CT, teaching in cities such as Milford, Norwalk, Stamford, Danbury and Hartford, as well as Chappaqua NY.

Tango Workshops Internationally acclaimed Argentine Teachers/Performers Pablo and Daniela will present workshops addressing various aspects of tango in a fun environment. All tango dancers are welcome as well as beginners who have taken Dale and Gem's intensive workshops. 1:00 p.m.: Sacadas with Changes of Direction and using them to create creative walking sequences. Milford Center for the Arts , Milford (MF) Tango Workshops Pablo and Daniela will continue their teaching in Connecticut with three more workshops with progressive difficulty. All tango dancers are welcome as well as beginners who have taken Dale and Gem's intensive workshops. Dance Dimensions, Norwalk (DD) United for their common passion, Pablo Velez and Daneial Kizyma, are rising stars of a younger generation of Argentine Tango dancers and performers. Bron in Argentina with Ukrainian, Lithuanina and Italian heritages, Pablo and Daniela started dancing as teenagers first studying with Walter Gomez. They formed their partnership in 1998, to start a successful career of performances in shows such as La Ventana, Gala Tango, El Viejo Almacen, Madero Tango, Che Tango, Complejo Tango, Bien de Tango and Mora Godoy Company. In Buenos Aires they teach at the Mora Godoy School, Milonga El Tacuari as well as Gala Tango. Their international engagements took them to four continents to teach and perform in countries such as Denmark, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Japan, Paraguay and Brazil among others.
